Acer’s plans for Android haven’t been a secret, but we have to say that this little netbook, with just enough of Google’s mobile Operating System (OS) on it to seem pretty interesting, is quite the treat. It utilizes Microsoft’s Windows XP as the main OS, but then it has the ability to quick boot into Android. You’ll be able to achieve this with Acer’s configuration manager, which is pre-installed on the system. The netbook itself features the standard 10.1-inch display. Inside, you’ll find Intel’s Atom N450 processor. You’ll also find 1GB of DDR2 DRAM, and a 160GB hard drive. Unfortunately, out of the box you’ll only get a 3-cell battery, but Acer will happily sell you a 6-cell model for an additional $95. There aren’t a lot more details to pass along, except for the price. At $375, it’s not necessarily a steal, but it won’t break the bank, either. There’s no word on official worldwide release, but that should change soon enough. [via Yahoo! News]
As expected, Acer has started showing off a dual boot netbook called the Acer Aspire One AOD255. It can run both Google Android and Windows 7, and comes with software called the Acer Configuration manager which you can use to determine which operating system will load.
Like other recent netbooks from Acer, the machine has 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, a 10.1 inch display, and a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor. The netbok comes with a choice of a 3 or 6 cell battery.
Computer World reports that the base model with a 3 cell battery is selling for about 4300 in Taiwan at the Taipei Computer Applications Show this week, but the final price will be closer to $375. There’s no word on whether the Acer Aspire One AOD255 will be available outside of Taiwan anytime soon.
This isn’t the first time Acer has offered a dual boot netbook. A version of the Acer Aspire One D250 which could run Windows and Android was also available briefly.
